A faint glow or glimmer in the atmosphere of a planet resulting from the recombination of the atmospheric atoms that have been broken up by the action of sunlight: An airglow is a dim illumination in the sky caused by photochemical luminescence in the upper atmosphere, and can only be watched by the use of instruments.
