An electric vehicle that either operates solely on electricity, but contains an internal combustion motor that generates additional electricity (series hybrid); or it contains an electric system and an internal combustion system and is capable of operating on either system (a parallel hybrid).

Hybrid cars have two sources of power:

1. An ordinary gasoline engine, powered by a fuel tank.
2. An electric motor, powered by batteries.

The driver can switch between gasoline and electric power to suit different driving conditions.

A solar electric or photovoltaic system that includes other sources of electricity generation; such as, wind or diesel generators.
