Playing with Words

(based on words from The Washington Post's "Style Invitational" in which readers were given the opportunity to take any word from the dictionary, alter it by adding, subtracting, or changing one letter, and then to provide a new definition for the modified word)

burglesque
A poorly planned break-in.
foreploy
Any misrepresentation about one's self so he or she can get better acquainted with someone.
giraffiti
Vandalistic paint spray that is applied very, very high.
intaxication
Feeling wonderful about getting a refund from the IRS, which lasts until the person realizes that it was his or her money in the first place.
reintarnation
Coming back to life as a hillbilly and yelling out, "Tarnation, I'm back."

A combination of tarn(al) + (damn)ation.

Tarnation is a euphemism for damnation (condemnation to everlasting punishment or doom), the act of damning, or a condition of being damned, which is used to express anger or annoyance.

sarchasm
The gulf or chasm between the speaker of sarcastic wit and the recipient who doesn't comprehend it.
