nasal bone (s) (noun), nasal bones (pl)
The bony section of the fore face forming the edge of the muzzle: The nasal bone covers part of the nasal cavity.
nasal septum (s) (noun), asal septa; nasal septums (pl)
The bony partition dividing the right and the left nasal cavities; columella nasi: The nasal septum is a bony and cartilaginous divider in the nose that keeps the left and right air passages apart from each other and divides the two nostrils
neuter (verb), neuters; neutered; neutering
To castrate or to spay a dog: At the veterinarian's office, Jenny's dog was neutered so that it wouldn't be able to have offspring.

1. The organ of olfaction or smell: The nose is a protuberance on the face accommodating the nostrils and is used not only to smell things, but to breathe.
2. The ability of a dog to detect something by scenting or smelling it: The sporting dog that Mr. Smart had had a good nose for detecting game.

The sense of smell: The olfactory ability is the capability to recognize and perceive odors in the environment.
olfactory nerve (s) (noun), olfactory nerves (pl)
One of the twelve cranial nerves of the dog: In medical school, Susan learned that a olfactory nerve was a cranial nerve located in the the olfactory neurosensory cells of the nasal mucous membrane.
outcrossing (s) (noun), outcrossings (pl)
The mating of unrelated individuals of the same breed: Mr. Thompson read about outcrossing as a way of interbreeding of unrelated dogs to achieve an intended genetic trait.
paddling,(s) (noun), paddlings (pl)
A gaiting fault; tied at the elbows: The term paddling is so named for its similarity to the swing and the dip of a canoeist's paddle.

Pinching in at the elbows and shoulder joints causes the front legs to swing forward in a stiff outward arc.

pastern (s) (noun), pasterns (pl)
The part of the dog's leg that extends from the fetlock joint down to the foot: The dog's front limb assembly resembles the human arm with shoulder, upper arm, and forearm, and the human wrist is analogous to the canine pastern joint, the back of the hand is the dog's pastern, and the fingers form the dog's paws.

A dog walks on its toes like a horse, not the soles of its feet like a bear or a human.

The dog's paws and the pasterns work together to absorb the shock of jumping and running and to provide flexibility of movement.

Structural faults such as straight or loose shoulders, straight stifles (knee joint), loose hips, and lack of balance between the front and rear structure, can all cause gait abnormalities that in turn lead to damage to pasterns and feet.

Full, loose-hanging upper lips: Certain dogs, like the bloodhound and the beagle have such pendulous flews
pi-dog (s) (noun), pi-dogs (pl)
A crossbred, mongrel-type of dog; pye-dog; A pi-dog is also known to be termed as a "stray" dog, especially in Indian contexts or of one of Eastern origin.
pile (s) (noun), piles (pl)
A dense undercoat of soft hair: Albert was happy that his dog had a fantastic pile that would keep it warm during the winter months.
pily coat (s) (noun), pily coats (pl)
A dense and harsh outer coat, coupled with a soft, fur-like and very close inner coat: Annette wished she had a pily coat like her dog to keep her very warm when taking it for walks during the cold winter months.
