police dog (s) (noun), police dogs (pl)
Any dog trained for police work: As a policeman, Jane's uncle worked with a police dog that was trained to find hidden drugs and to catch criminals.
pompon (s) (noun), pompons (pl)
The rounded tuft of hair left on the end of the tail when the coat of a dog is clipped: as with the poodle: When the elderly Mrs. Hathaway took her dogto be groomed, she wanted it to have a pompon on its tail!
prance (verb), prances; pranced; prancing
To strut in a stylish, springy manner, like the fancy gait of a horse: When Lucy's dog met another dog of the opposite sex in the park, it pranced around it in a bouncy and showy way
premolar (s) (noun), premolars (pl)
One of the teeth that are located behind the canine teeth and in front of the molars: Most dogs have eight premolars on each side of the mouth, four on the upper and four on the lower jaw.

prick ear (s) (noun), prick ears (pl)
Erect ear carriage, usually pointed at the tip of the ear: The breed standards of terriers call for these dogs to have prick ears, which are held stiffly erect.

A dog that is pedigreed of unmixed lineage; A purebred is a dog whose sire and dam belong to the same breed and are themselves of unmixed descent since recognition of the breed.
quicksilver (adjective) (not comparable)
Regarding the ability of a dog to make the abrupt turns, springing starts, and sudden stops required of a sheep herding dog: While on a visit in Ireland, the couple went on a tour to see how specially trained dogs performed quicksilver movements, darting here and there to keep the sheep together.

A likeness or exact image of one dog to another; the close resemblance to another dog: The resemblance of Mrs. Clark's dog to Mary's dog was so identical, it was a real ringer, or a dead ringer!

Thick, longer hair growth around the neck: The ruff on Sam's dog was white with bits of black coloring.

The smell or odor left by an animal: The scent on the trail is the ground scent and that which is wafted or transported through the air is the airborne scent.
seeing-eye dog (s) (noun), seeing-eye dogs (pl)
A dog trained as a guide for the blind: A seeing-eye dog, or guide dog, is important for a person who has impaired vision.
